No Foundation in Creation

"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned..." (Romans 5:12)

"For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope..." (Romans 8:20)

"Man decays like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten." (Job 13:28)

We see this Biblical truth all around us, don't we? What can we look at in this fallen world and say, "Aah, this will last forever!" Big trees eventually rot and fall. The beauty of the flower fades. From the moment we build something, its decay sets in, as it does to our very bodies as youth ebbs away. There is nothing permanent, nothing we can set our feet upon, so to speak, and be eternally secure.

That eternal security is what we long for. And God has it in store for those that love Him and are called according to His purpose! Did you catch that wonderful four letter word in one of the Scripture passages cited above? Here it is again: "For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in H O P E..."

Thanks be to God, there is hope, and that hope is bound up in Jesus our Redeemer and the Redeemer of all creation! God's eternal plan will consummate in the final revelation of Jesus Christ, Who died to save, not only His elect people from the guilt of sin by His substitutionary death, but to save the entire universe. Not only will the bodies of His people rise renewed, powerful and incorruptible, but the futility God imposed on all creation will be lifted. Futility itself will be abolished.

So there is an ultimate foundation, an eternal security "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 3:11 )
